Elf on a Shelf Inspiration for Christmas 2024

December is nearly here, and with it comes the return of that mischievous little Elf on the Shelf. If you're anything like most parents, keeping up with the Elf antics can be a struggle. Do not worry as BoxFetti has got you covered!

Here are 23 fun, silly, and sometimes outright cheeky Elf ideas that your kids will love and keep the magic alive all month long. Plus, don’t miss the free Elf Cheat Sheet and Elf Arrival Letter download links at the end of the post for even more ideas!

1. Marshmallow Bath

Fill a small container with marshmallows and perch your Elf in the middle, as if they’re enjoying a cozy soak. Bonus points if you add a toy rubber duck or a mini towel!

2. Candy Cane Sledding

Glue two candy canes together to create a sled, then pose your Elf speeding down a "hill" (a stack of books works perfectly). Add a couple of stuffed animals or toys to ride along for extra fun.

3. Zipline Adventurer

String some dental floss or ribbon across the room and attach the Elf with a paperclip or tiny harness for a daring zipline ride.

4. Cookie Monster

Your Elf can’t resist sweets! Place them next to an open cookie tin or plate with cookie crumbs and a guilty face (draw one on a tiny sticky note).

5. North Pole Spa Day

Wrap a small towel around your Elf's head, set up a mini spa scene with cotton pads as “cucumber slices,” and scatter some toy beauty products. Kids will love this pampered pose!

6. Toy Parade

Line up a trail of action figures, dolls, or cars in a parade, with the Elf leading the way!

7. Snowball Fight

Set up a "snowball fight" with mini marshmallows or cotton balls. Position your Elf and some toys in a standoff, mid-battle.

8. Sticky Tape Trouble

Trap your Elf in a web of sticky tape or wrapping paper, as if they got tangled while trying to wrap a present.

9. Balloon Ride

Attach your Elf to a helium balloon (or a regular balloon tied to a chair) for an adventurous “hot air balloon” experience. Need some helium balloons? Pick them up from our showroom!

10. Elf Bake-Off

Set up a baking scene with flour, cookie cutters, and a rolling pin. Scatter sprinkles for that mid-cookie-making mess vibe.

11. Tinsel Trouble

Wrap your Elf in tinsel and pop them at the top of the tree, looking like they were trying to help decorate but got carried away.

12. Movie Night

Create a mini cinema scene with popcorn, tiny paper cups, and your Elf watching a Christmas classic (use your phone or tablet to display the movie).

13. Superhero Mode

Dress your Elf in a tiny superhero cape and pose them “flying” through the air. A scarf or handkerchief makes an easy DIY cape!

14. Draw on a Banana

Your Elf can show off their artistic side by doodling on a banana with a marker. Funny faces, Christmas designs, or even messages work great.

15. Washing Mischief

Tuck your Elf into a doll-sized wash basket with tiny clothes scattered around, as if they’ve been hard at work...or just playing! Barbies or doll clothes work great!

16. Snow Angel Fun

Pour out some sugar or flour on the counter and lay your Elf in the middle, arms and legs spread out to mimic a snow angel.

17. The Elf Band

Gather toy instruments and set up a “concert,” with the Elf as the star performer. If you have multiple Elves, they can form a whole band!

18. Elf Selfies

Set your Elf next to a phone or camera with silly selfies on display. If your kids have access to a device, this one will crack them up!

19. Mini Tree Decorator

Pose your Elf decorating a small plant or mini Christmas tree. Use pipe cleaners or beads for “ornaments.”

20. Game Night

Set up a board game like Uno or a deck of cards, with the Elf mid-game against a few stuffed animals. Who’s winning?

21. Elf Gymnastics

Create a gymnastics scene with paper towel rolls as a balance beam, or hang your Elf from a homemade set of rings (use pipe cleaners).

22. Letter Writing

Leave a tiny “letter” from the Elf to your child. They can write about their adventures in the North Pole or leave a Christmas challenge for the day.

23. Balloon Avalanche

Fill a doorway with balloons and set your Elf “caught” in the middle, as if they started the chaos. It’s a colorful and fun surprise!
