St. Patricks Day is just a couple of weeks away and the Irish community in Dubai will be preparing to paint the town green! We chatted to Irish mum and blogger Helly about how she celebrates with her family. To shop the look and create your own St. Patricks Day vibe at home, shop our full collection here!
It is such a massive day/weekend for the Irish. Saint Patrick brought Christianity into Ireland so it celebrates the heritage and culture of Ireland. The 17th of March is the day St Patrick passed away so that is why we celebrate him every year. People all over the world will celebrate with parades, music, irish dancing and just having the craic! We keep this going in our own family because tradition is important and we want our girls to feel the luck of the irish and irish pride!!!
What do you typically do for St Patricks Day here in Dubai?
We 100% make a full weekend of it that's for sure! Last year we hosted a St Patrick's Day parade at the expo and it was electric. To be honest when we started the process with everyone that was involved we had no idea how big it would end up - but nothing will explain the pride we had that day.
The kids play GAA which is two sports.
1 - Gaelic Football
2 - Hurling
So the teams came to play on the pitches at expo and showed off to people all over the world their skills.
We then had the parade from the pitch to the Al Wasl Dome which was lit up in the Irish Flag - to then watch our daughters Irish Dance on the stage. Honestly - Proudest moment of my life!
If you're hosting St. Patricks Day at home or making it special for the kids do you decorate the house?
We will have to have an "Irish Breakfast" with all the trimmings. One of our daughters Aoibhie loves to make Irish Brown Bread for the family table. I loved decorating the house last year with shamrock confetti, lots of rainbows and a pot of gold (ferrori rochet) went down a treat!
How about styling a St. Patricks Day table - any tips?!
I normally say less is more, however go big or go home on special days!
Lots of glitter, shamrocks, rainbows and BoxFetti has some hilarious leprechaun masks! Dinner would usually be corned beef, cabbage and spuds!!!
